Adentonsillectomy

Tonsil surgery is one of the most performed surgeries in the world. If our patient is a child, adenoid meat is definitely added to it. The misconception among the people is that the tonsils and adenoids have a defense function in the body and that the defense mechanism will collapse when taken, which is not true. Tonsils and adenoids are just one of the lymph, that is, immune tissues in the throat area. Apart from this, there are lymph nodes on both sides of the neck that serve as immunity close to the face. Therefore, the removal of tonsils and adenoids will not have a negative effect on the future life of the patient, especially since the inflammation attacks will go away, growth and development will accelerate. Reactions from families after tonsil and adenoid surgeries are as "my child's eating and drinking has improved", "he has grown in height". The operation takes about half an hour and does not tire the child's metabolism in terms of narcosis.

WHEN SHOULD THE SURGERY BE DONE?

Operations due to recurrent infections are usually planned after the age of 3 years. There is a belief that pharyngitis is easier after tonsillectomy or that the infection spreads more easily to the lower respiratory tract. Actually, this belief is not true. Because the incidence of pharyngitis is the same in people who have or have not had their tonsils removed. Removal of the tonsils does not increase the rate of pharyngitis. People with and without tonsils also have lower respiratory tract infections with equal frequency.

In case of obstruction of the upper respiratory tract due to the size of the tonsils and adenoids, in case of abscess formation around the tonsils, in the presence of suspicion of malignant tumor, in adenoid and tonsil growths that disrupt the jaw structure, in case of frequent recurrent tonsil infections, in carriers of diphtheria (Bird's mandible) microbes, heart In the presence of valve defect, in case of frequent otitis media due to tonsillitis and adenoid inflammation, surgery is required.
